Three Dollar Orders and Big Girl Dreams

Three Dollar Orders and Big Girl Dreams

What Gig Work Taught Me About Worth, Hustle, and Why I Still Show Up

Some people think gig work is easy. They imagine it is just me, a playlist, and a hot bag. Cute idea, but let me introduce you to the real world.

The three dollar orders.
The no tip ninjas.
The restaurants that take thirty minutes to fry a piece of chicken that was already cooked.
The parking lots designed by Satan himself.

And yet, here I am. Still choosing this work every day. Still keeping my head above water. Still choosing to believe I can DoorDash/UberEats my way to my own destiny.

Let me explain.

When Three Dollars Feels Like a Personal Attack

There is something humbling about driving across town only to see a three dollar payout on the screen. You sit there like... wow. I got out of my car for this?

But here is the thing. Sometimes that three dollars is the difference between stress and survival. Sometimes you take those small orders because you need the momentum. You need the energy of movement. You need to say to the universe, I am trying. Meet me halfway.

And sometimes that three dollar order leads you into the kind of neighborhood where the air smells like old money and eucalyptus. You never know.

The Rebellion in Showing Up

I used to think hustle meant struggle. Now I see it differently. Showing up for yourself when life kicks you in the chest? That is rebellion. That is resistance. That is you refusing to drown.

After losing my virtual assistant clients during the government shutdown, I had to rebuild my entire income in real time with a three year old watching me. I had no time to fall apart. So I took the gigs. I took the chances. I got in the car.

And on good days, I made enough to breathe. On bad days, I made enough to hope.

Hope matters.

The Unexpected Blessings

What kept me going were the small surprises. The moments I did not see coming.

The customer who tipped twenty dollars on a five dollar order.
The restaurant worker who recognized me and handed me a free tea.
The quiet drive home after a long night where I actually felt proud of myself.

And the bigger blessings too.

Delivering to homes that look like the Pinterest boards of my dreams. Seeing what wealth looks like up close. Knowing one day, my GPS will lead me back there and this time I will be pulling into my own driveway.

These experiences remind me that I am not stuck. I am in motion.

What Gig Work Taught Me About Health

Here is the twist. While I was hustling for money, I kept noticing the food I was carrying. Bags heavy with grease, sugar, and sodium. Meals that fill the moment but never fuel the future.

It made me think about my own health, my parents, and the things I learned from caregiving.

It also made me realize how many people want to eat better but do not know how to do it with the apps they rely on.

That is where my guide came from. A little comedy. A little wellness. A little wake up call with love.

The Dreams Behind the Deliveries

I am not just chasing money. I am chasing stability for me and my daughter. I am chasing the version of myself that gets to create full time. I am chasing the universe I am building piece by piece.

Itstechnicole.
Botanicole.
The art. The jokes. The wellness. The healing.
All funded by these miles I drive every week.

I am delivering one bag at a time to get to my own bag.
And even on three dollar days, I am moving forward.

Your Turn

If you are doing something right now that feels beneath your talent or your dreams, trust me. You are not stuck. You are gathering tools. You are learning discipline. You are building grit. And grit will take you places talent never could.

This detour might be the road that changes everything.

If this story hit you in the chest, share it. We’re all out here trying to keep going: especially on $3 days.
